Outdoor enthusiasts geared up for Call of the Wild

Jan. 26 fundraiser makes good works possible all year at Greater Midland North Family Center

MIDLAND, Mich. - If you love the great outdoors and supporting a great cause all at the same time, then Call of the Wild is the perfect fundraiser for you.

The 12th annual Call of the Wild event will take place Friday, Jan. 26, at Greater Midland North Family Center, 2601 E. Shearer Road in Mills Township. The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and features dinner, live and silent auctions, archery demonstrations, hunting and fishing vendors, children's activities and more.

Along with dozens of outdoor vendors, the evening includes special guest appearances by local outdoor celebrities Mike Avery, Mark Gwizdala and Art Lewis. In addition, "Naked and Afraid" survival expert and former Midland resident Kellie Nightlinger is also appearing.

But Call of the Wild is much more than just a fun night out.

"Every penny raised stays right here at North Family Center providing vital services for children, teens, seniors and families who live in northern Midland County," said Tammy Bailey, North Family Center board chairwoman and Call of the Wild chairwoman.

North Family Center fills a void in northern Midland County -- an area that has limited service offerings. Money raised at Call of the Wild is earmarked to support programs and services for area residents long after the party is over.

Its emergency shelter, heat and food programs help provide essential services to hundreds of people in need every year. The Center offers educational, after-school and teen programs, as well as a range of hard-to-come-by recreational opportunities in northern Midland County.

"We not only serve children and families, but also senior citizens who consider the Center their daily home for lunch and friendship," Bailey said.

Call of the Wild has become the biggest party of the year in northern Midland County, drawing friends and neighbors who enjoy spending time together and sharing a love of the great outdoors.

Admission is free.Dinner tickets are $13 each for adults (two for $25) and $6 for children under age 10 and available at 989-689-7770, or at Greater Midland Community Center, Maple Hill Nursery and WMPX/WMRX Radio.
