Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to become presenting sponsor of Tri-City Kids’ Triathlon

(Midland, MI) – Greater Midland Community Center is pleased to announce a new partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for the upcoming Tri Kids Try Triathlon July 18 in Midland.

”Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is proud to be a sponsor of the Tri-City Kids’ Triathlon, as it supports our ongoing commitment to encourage Michigan kids to develop healthy habits at an early age,” said Shelley DuFort, senior community responsibility liaison at Blue Cross. “We’re looking forward to celebrating the hard work and dedication these kids have put into physical fitness when they complete the triathlon on July 18.”

Try Kids Tri began in 2009 at Northwood University to give kids a chance to participate in an enjoyable, athletic event that emphasizes health, self-esteem, self-confidence and fun. In 2010, the race moved to Dow High School and now attracts hundreds of young athletes from across the Great Lakes Bay Region.

New this year, the Community Center along with presenting sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, will offer the #MIKidsCan Kids’ Triathlon Camp July 13 – 17. Held from 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. each day at the Community Center, this camp introduces kids to the basic techniques of swimming, cycling and running, as well as bike safety and maintenance, brick workouts, transition practice, race pacing, healthy living and sportsmanship.

Through drills, races, relays and games, kids who participate will not only learn about the sport of triathlon, but also build confidence, character and sportsmanship in a fun and safe atmosphere. The camp is open to kids ages 7 to 13 regardless of whether they’re registered for the race. Cost is $98 for the week-long camp and includes a t-shirt and other giveaways from Blue Cross.

“The #MIKidsCan Kids’ Triathlon Camp offers a great opportunity for kids to get active while preparing for the triathlon or experiencing some of the triathlon events for the first time, “ said DuFort. “We hope the camp encourages kids to keep moving and live a healthier lifestyle long after the camp ends.”
